iron man con commission
This drawing was one of the overflow pieces
from the NY ComicCon. I didn't have enough time at the show to
complete the piece for Gerry Martelly--so I broke one of my own rules
and did it from my studio when I returned. On the good side--Gerry get a
better piece that he would have at the show.

hercules con commission
This drawing was
another of the overflow pieces from the NY ComicCon. |

the guardsman
This was an unusual
request. Todd Horneck purchased this "Iron Concept of the Month" art
from me in NYC--asking me to add backgrounds to the original board. |

Silver centurion / mark ii
But the Guardsman
page was not so unusual that it didn't happen again.
Jeff Harnett,
Todd's pal, also purchased the Silver Centurion concept art and had me
extend the art, as well. |

Justice League #4 Variant
Recreation
This was a very fun
commission for me to work on. Created for Michael Dunne, he asked me to
replace the original JLA characters with his favorite Silver Age
Avengers. Once I got started, I thought it would be cool to go all the
way and replace the cover copy with new blurbs that mentioned the
Avengers. All in all--a blast to do and JLA #4 was one of my favorite
comics as a kid. BTW: Kudos to the master--Murphy Anderson who did the
original JLA cover.

robot monster
John Petty of
Dallas, TX now holds the official BobLayton.com record for the silliest
request I've ever received for a commission!
What he asked for
was an full-cover illustration of Iron Man and Mister Miracle battling
Robot Monster, the star of the infamous 1953 film by Phil Tucker!
To tell the truth--I had a blast doing this thing! |

Sword of the Atom #1 Variant
Recreation
This drawing,
inspired by the original illustration by Gil Kane, was commissioned by
Morten Lausten of Denmark. |
|
 |
Tales Of Suspense #71 Variant
Recreation
This piece was
commissioned by my pal Terry Allen of Bonanza Books & Comics in Modesto,
CA (shameless plug for Terry!) I altered the original Kirby drawing,
making the Titanium Man more to scale size-wise and changed his armor to
the standard specs for the character. And , of course, both armors got a
coating of "Layton Metal Wax". |

Justice Society Double-Page
Spread
This whacking huge
page was commissioned by Michael Dunne and features several scenes from
Golden Age covers of individual JSA members. Obviously, I was somewhat
liberal with my interpretations of a few of them. |
|
 |
Animal Man This one was
done for John Schwenk Jr. and features one of my all-time favorite DC
characters. |

MTV CON SKETCH
This was actually a con sketch I did
for a fellow from MTV at the NYC ComicCon. Although I usually don't run
con drawings in my gallery, this one was a favorite of mine--mainly
because I'm a huge "Pimp My Ride" and Xzibit fan. |
